When I say “please don’t take a picture of me” it’s not because I’m being bitchy and stubborn, it’s because if I see that picture I will seriously feel so bad about myself and think I am the ugliest thing on earth and sink a little deeper into self consciousness and hatred.

thank you

and before anyone says anything about selfies- those are controlled photos.

Before I had tumblr I had no idea there were any sexualities other than heterosexual and homosexual. I never considered gender inequalities still existed.

That doesn’t mean I was purposely trying to discriminate or upset people.

There is a difference between being just ignorant of something and purposefully discriminating.

Give someone a chance to learn and be enlightened before you slam them as rude, horrible people

god bless

Just came home from visiting my cousin at the Pysch ward at NYU.. and I have to say, even after all of this she still doesn’t understand..

She’s not the first in this family to have a mental breakdown, she isn’t the first to be admitted.. but of course, she doesn’t seem to care. We’re all there…

Holy hell. Anytime someone says that mental illness are “no big deal” or “all in ur head” show them this, with special attention 2 the tags

Of course, mental illness is not “in your head”. A lot of it is actually hereditary and stress induced. My family has an issue with both, so it’s very important to be aware of it as a serious issue. People want to say it’s “all in your head” because they aren’t the ones going through it so they don’t understand but it’s when they end up in places like a psych ward they tend to slightly change their attitudes.

I would never wish for that to happen to someone. My cousin made it seem like she was above her sister because she never actually dealt with what her sister had to go through, she under-minded her depression and mental illness. A few weeks later she had a break down, and understands better how her sister feels because she as well was forced to face her problem and is now on medication.

She seems to be taking it light though because how the psych ward at NYU is set up.. it gives you the college dorm vibe, from the bedrooms to the halls… the only difference is that there are nurses around instead of dorm leaders and you have people giving you medicine routinely. She did meet people who understand her better as well as give her an insight of what it is that a lot of us go through.

The real battle begins when she leaves the hospital, when she’s on her own to face herself. There’s no one watching her, there’s no one taking care of her; she has to do it on her own. That’s the real struggle.

People in the ward are often dangerous, I’ve seen a few today that you definitely have to be careful around.

and yes, they do have a padded room.

Shit, man. I hope ur cousin… feels better(?) Not sure how 2 say that without sounding like a heartless asshole. I just hope everything gets better for her, u know? Best wishes.

Thanks, I don’t think you’d sound like a heartless asshole, I was just responding to those who would think that mental illness is in your head (not directly to you, sorry for the misunderstanding). I appreciate the best wishes, I’m sure she would too :)
